Tooling Balls

Tungsten carbide balls are used where extreme hardness and wear resistance is required; in such applications as bearings, ball screws, valves and flowmeters. They are also used for coining and as pivots, detents and tips for gages and tracers. Decimal-inch sized tungsten carbide balls are widely used for ballizing (below) or measuring hole sizes (see Inspection Products data sheet). They are also used for inspection tools, comparative checking and gaging.
Features
Tungsten carbide itself is practically inert; any attack is usually on the binder. Since other materials are less expensive, the selection of tungsten carbide solely for corrosion resistance is usually not justified. In severely corrosive conditions, carbides with more resistant binder formulation can be supplied.
Ballizing
Low-cost, high-speed hole sizing and Finishing
Ballizing is a fast low-cost process for sizing and finishing tubing and holes in metal. Pressing a slightly oversized tungsten carbide ball through the unfinished hole brings the hole up to desired size in seconds. The resulting surface finish is excellent and both size and finish results are very consistent. All size +.0001 -.0001

ToolingBalls_1.jpgGaging Ball and Stem Combinations
OneMonroe supplies answers to special gaging problems with a variety of ball and stem combinations made to precise tolerances. Balls can be any size, and the stem can be any length, diameter and shape. Available in tungsten carbide as well as 440-C stainless steel. GBSC.jpgMaster Ball Sets
Master balls are made of the finest grade tungsten carbide and are therefore highly resistant to corrosion, humidity and abrasion. Size and sphericity tolerances are held to 0.000010" and are certified to the National Institute of Standards and Testing. All Master Balls are widely used in gage and tool rooms, and in inspection and production departments engaged in close-tolerance measurements.Applications include:
-Setting and checking external gages and comparators
-Checking flatness and parallelism of micrometer anvils
-Determining location of existing holes
-Measuring depth of drilled holes
-Checking internals tapers
These balls are available from stock individually or in sets, calibrated to inch or metric standards.
