Japanese Industrial Standard O-Rings are another popular classification system used around the globe. Published by the Japanese Standard Association, these o-rings are also categorized using the metric system. JIS O-Rings are used in many different fields, but typically are implemented in Japan's semiconductor, automotive and machine tool industries. Neoprene is also known as Chloroprene.

Neoprene resists fats, oils and petroleum products. Stands up well in sunlight. Low flammability - burns when exposed to flames, but self-extinguishes when flame is removed. Generally good ozone, aging and chemical resistance. It has good mechanical properties over a wide temperature range.
